What to expect on Wednesday, April 5th

We are excited to see you on Wednesday, April 5th, at Recovery Day at the Capitol. Please plan to attend our morning session before we head to the Capitol. This will provide you with all the information and resources you need for the day. are a few details to help with getting to the Family Life Center and about our activities.

A few helpful tips for a day at the Capitol:

  • Plan for Austin traffic;
  • Check the weather;
  • Dress for success, but wear comfortable shoes;
  • bring your business cards if you have them;
  • please plan for any dietary needs.

GETTING TO THE FAMILY LIFE CENTER

Navigating downtown Austin and getting to the Family Life Center can be tricky, so here are some instructions and helpful tips.

Please allow extra time for traffic and walking to the Family Life Center.

It is about a 20 minute walk from the Capitol Visitors parking garage to the Family Life Center.

Parking downtown is not free. Street parking is available but only for a couple of hours at a time. We recommend parking in the Capitol Visitors parking garage located on the east side of the Capitol at 1201 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78701. The garage entrance is located off 12th street between Trinity and San Jacinto.

Recovery Day at the Capitol is a day during the Texas Legislative Session when advocates from across the State of Texas gather at the State Capitol in Austin to advocate for addiction prevention, treatment and recovery through coordinated group visits with their Representatives and Senators.  The event is cohosted by the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP), Association of Substance Abuse Programs (ASAP) and RecoveryPeople. Policy priorities include issues around workforce, funding for and access to services and individual rights and protections.

  3. Attend Recovery Day at the Capital to learn about current legislation and to participate in coordinated group visits with your District Senator and Representative.
