Whole Health, Wellness and Recovery was a session held at the 2015 Recovery Capital Conference. Description: Recovery means different things to different people across a bright, colorful spectrum – research shows that almost all individuals with a substance use disorder have some sort of concurrent differential diagnoses or behaviors that they need to attend to in order to live well once sober. This workshop will discuss the innovations in holistic recovery from a Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual Perspective. These include, but are not limited to mindfulness, detox regimens, nutrition, life skills training, social skill building, grief and loss work, grounding in realistic perceptions of self and others, yoga, cultural traditions and experiences. Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify common differential diagnoses or behaviors and the importance of a holistic recovery approach.
- Discuss different perspectives and pathways to recovery.
- Identify innovative holistic recovery options from a Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual perspective.
- Learn concepts from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), such as the DBT concept, Wise Mind, as central to a simple, powerful, empirically supported framework that respectfully engages recovering people in their own efforts to enhance personal well-being.
