Peer and Family Workforce

Addiction has a profound and lasting effect on family units. Family Recovery Coaches are a critical healing link specially trained in educating and supporting those who have been impacted by the addition of a family member.

In addition to supporting a loved one’s recovery, family members can experience their own process of change and personal improvement. Family Recovery Coaches help impacted family members to improve their own health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their own full potential.

To be eligible for the training, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a high school diploma or GED
• Have had a personal recovery experience as a result of a loved one’s substance use issues
• Be willing to publicly identify as a family member in recovery
• Submit a Statement of Lived Experience, describing:
  • How long you have considered yourself in family recovery
  • What family recovery means to you
  • What resources you have accessed or systems you navigated
  • How you have used that experience to support others.
• Submit a Letter of Reference, describing how you:
  • Reflect recovery principles
  • Have supported other families
  • Have practiced self-care
  • Have maintained healthy boundaries with other families
• Note: Letters must be personally authored

Just as recovery is built on strengths, the Family Recovery Coach training is built on the State of Texas’ Peer Recovery Coach curriculum.  In 2019, RecoveryPeople used the State's 46-hour Core Curriculum to train Family Recovery Coaches, with approval from TCBAP.  As a result, many of our Family Recovery Coaches became PRS certified.

However, we discovered that the HHS curriculum needed to be revised to meet the learning objectives of Family Recovery Coaches.  We've created a separate and distinct Family Recovery Coach curriculum that we've submitted to TCBAP.
