Norma Reyes Named RecoveryPeople’s 2021 Peer of the Year
In recognition of her direct support to persons in recovery, RecoveryPeople is excited to announce Norma Reyes as our 2021 Peer Specialist of the Year recipient. This award is part of a RecoveryPeople campaign during National Recovery Month (September) that recognizes leaders in the recovery community.
As a young mother, Norma faced difficult life challenges, which contributed to her developing a substance use disorder. Today, she is a woman celebrating over 17 years of recovery. Norma is a living testament to the fact that recovery is possible, despite barriers. Along her journey, she completed an associates degree in Social Work, Social Work-Drug/Alcohol Abuse Counseling, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern, Peer Mentor/Peer Recovery Coach Designation and Community Health worker. Today, she works as a Peer Recovery Coach at Aliviane, an addiction treatment center in El Paso, Texas. When asked about working in the recovery field, Norma shared, “My work is my greatest satisfaction in life, and I enjoy it to the fullest.” Norma is using her lived experience and education to give back. Her supervisor, Julie Priego nominated her for this award, because Ms. Reyes does amazing work supporting high needs individuals.
