2022 Education Impact

Education

Education is a primary way that RecoveryPeople makes an impact and promotes recovery from substance use and related mental health challenges. Learn about our education impact below and about our other activities in our 2022 Impact Report.

RecoveryPeople is an accredited training entity and continuing education (CE) provider. In response to COVID, RecoveryPeople became a leader in developing and delivering virtual courses to recovery leaders and advocates, recovery workers (e.g. house managers and peer specialists), and recovery housing owners/operators.

Virtual and online training has allowed RecoveryPeople to cost-effectively reach more students, including those in remote areas. Using his SmartPhone, one student attended class from his tractor plowing a field in West Texas.

Classrooms

In 2022, 836 individuals received 4,630 hours worth of educational units by participating in virtual classrooms and in-person events.

Self-paced

In 2022, 624 students enrolled in 11,553 hours of self-paced courses through our online hub and satellite learning platforms.

Using grant funds, RecoveryPeople lowered financial barriers for students from underserved populations (e.g., Communities of Color, Texas-Mexico Border counties, and rural areas). RecoveryPeople awarded $78,000 in tuition and $130,000 in fellowship scholarships to eligible Texans pursuing recovery house manager certification in 2022. Moreover, RecoveryPeople distributed $387,000 in scholarships to eligible Texans pursuing peer specialist certification from 2000 through 2022.

Partners

All of this was accomplished by partnering with fiscal agents (e.g. UT Health Houston and Ohio Recovery Housing), co-hosts (e.g., Association of Substance Abuse Programs and the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals), and 22 instructors from all regions of Texas and beyond, including Ohio.

How can you support?

Make a tax-deductible donation. Leadership and workforce development is huge need and not everyone can afford tuition. While we have gotten good a winning education grants, RecoveryPeople relies on contributions from donors like you because our government funders have policies and restrictions that prevent us from covering all of the associated costs.
