Chris Bailey Named RecoveryPeople’s 2021 Person of the Year

In recognition of his contributions to the recovery movement, RecoveryPeople is excited to announce Christopher Bailey as our 2021 Person of the Year. This award is part of a RecoveryPeople campaign during National Recovery Month (September) that recognizes leaders in the recovery community.

Over 24 years ago, Chris started his recovery journey. Today, he is a certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), a Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) , a certified Trainer of Peers (TOP), and a Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS). In addition, Chris is the Program Coordinator for Project Vida Health Center in El Paso, Texas. He manages the “peers on call” program where peers are dispatched to respond to overdoses reported by EMS and the University Medical Center ER. As if that is not enough, Chris has also been a leader in transforming the local, state and regional recovery ecosystem. Chris serves as a co-convener for the Paso del Norte Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC). He served as the Texas HHS Region 10 Representative at the Texas Recovery Initiative and as the former chair of the Texas Recovery Action Work Group (TRAW). He also serves on SAMHSA’s Region 6 Peer Advisory Council, working with peer leaders from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Outside of recovery, Chris has a degree in Analytical Philosophy, is a certified outdoors expert and tracker, and is currently enrolled in the master Herbalist course.
