In recognition of his use of media to inspire others and to advocate for mental health and substance use recovery, RecoveryPeople is excited to announce Shawn Livingston as our 2021 Media Award of the Year recipient. This award is part of a RecoveryPeople campaign during National Recovery Month (September) that recognizes leaders in the recovery community.
Shawn is a combat veteran, decorated ultra-marathon runner and a person in recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). After sustaining injuries while on active duty, Shawn found himself deep in opioid addiction. Through recovery, Shawn is now a recovery coach, public speaker and the subject of a documentary film: 100 Miles to Redemption. Directed and produced by Andrew Shebay, the film tells Shawn’s recovery story using his first 100 miles trail race as the vehicle. The film has a powerful message and helps individuals and families understand the complexity of the disease and the road to recovery.
RecoveryPeople extends special recognition and thanks to:
- The Conservatory in Dallas for sponsoring the award,
- Gina Kaye for nominating Shawn and
- Award winning Director and Producer, Andrew Shebay, for telling a strength-based story about recovery.
