RecoveryPeople provides leadership in key state and national positions:
- Behavioral Health Advisory Committee (BHAC) – RecoveryPeople’s Executive Director, Jason Howell, was appointed to the Texas Health and Human Services Behavioral Health Advisory Committee (BHAC) representing the recovery community for a 3 year term (2016-2019). The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) established the Behavioral Health Advisory Committee (BHAC) as the state mental health planning council in accordance with the state’s obligations under 42 U.S.C. §300x-3. The purpose of the committee is to provide customer/consumer and stakeholder input to the Health and Human Services system in the form of recommendations regarding the allocation and adequacy of behavioral health services and programs within the State of Texas. The BHAC considers and makes recommendations to the HHS Executive Commissioner consistent with the committee’s purpose. As a member of the BHAC, Jason also sits on several subcommittees: Block Grant Committee and Ad Hoc Housing Committee.
- National Alliance for Recovery Residences – RecoveryPeople’s Executive Director, Jason Howell, is a founding Board Member of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) and was NARR’s Board President for two terms. RecoveryPeople has helped make huge strides in the national recovery housing movement. (Learn more about the recovery housing movement)
- Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) – The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) created the Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) in 2011. BRSS TACS encourages and supports the widespread adoption of recovery-oriented supports, services, and systems across the United States. RecoveryPeople supports BRSS TACS through various leadership roles, including the BRSS TACS Steering Committee and various Expert Panels.
- National Recovery Month Evaluation Sub-committee – RecoveryPeople’s Executive Director, Jason Howell, chairs the National Recovery Month Planning Partners’ Evaluation Subcommittee.
