Family Recovery Support Specialist

Upcoming Training – Register Today

RecoveryPeople has an active proposal in with the Texas Certification Board (TCB) regarding a Family Recovery Support Specialist (FRSS) certification. Addiction is a family disease impacting 1 in 3 households, and affected family members can greatly benefit from receiving recovery support. Here are some ways FRSS’s support families affected by Substance Use Disorder:

  • Evidence-based information and linkage to systems of care
  • Quality support and an individualized family recovery plan
  • Education and support groups

In 2018, RecoveryPeople proposed the development of a FRSS role and credential. Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) staff requested that we start with the 46-hour Peer Recovery Coach training (PRCT) and adapt it with participant feedback. We received feedback from three cohorts of affected family members, which was critical in the development of our new FRSS curriculum. It’s a 46-hour course that spans the four Peer Recovery Specialist credential domains defined by IC&RC.
