The History of Recovery in Texas: Empowering Today and Inspiring the Future by Honoring the Past.
(July 1, 2023 to Present)
The History of Recovery in Texas: Empowering Today and Inspiring the Future by Honoring the Past is a docuseries (a series of documentaries) that illuminates the history of recovery in Texas by capturing oral histories from changemakers, individuals who have used their lived experience in recovery to help others impacted by substance use and related mental health challenges. Unlike many media projects that exploit the drama and trauma associated with addiction, this project provides audiences hope, a deeper feeling connection, and inspires others to contribute as a part of their own journey. From the beginning, peers and affected family members have be called to be of service, address gaps in support, and drive policy change. This docuseries curates these stories before they are lost to time.
This project is support, in part, by a grant from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, and we are actively seeking additional funding and donations to more quickly capture the vast recovery history of Texas.
This project is produced by Elephant Productions.
As a companion to the docuseries, RecoveryPeople collects and posts historical stories milestones on an interactive, web-based timeline.
