Our Peer-to-Career program enhances the recruitment and retention of peer workers certified peer specialists in the recovery workforce and increases access to peer support services for individuals impacted by the opioid crisis in Texas.

Position Summary:

Peer-to-Career Specialists support individuals in recovery from opioid use or other substance use disorders pursue their peer specialist credential and career goals. From orientation to stable employment, Peer-to-Career specialists are there to support eligible individuals develop a success plan and help lower barriers. This position focuses on mentoring, coaching, and guiding peer professionals through training, certification, employment, and long-term career development pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide support to eligible individuals pursuing peer specialists (re)credentialing, employment and continuing education.

  • Review Peer-to-Career applications

  • Guide peers through state certification processes (e.g., RSPS, PSS); Support individuals developing a success plan towards peer specialist credential and career goals. This includes helping participants identify strengths, build confidence, and address barriers to certification and employment.

  • Link participants to resources.

  • Link participants to instructors, supervisors, field experience, employment and leadership opportunities, continuing education, and a supportive peer specialist network.

  • Build relationships with training entities, supervisors, employers, and other community partners.

  • Help design and refine career pathway programming

  • Track participant progress and outcomes using program data tools.

  • Contribute to grant reports, success stories, resource development and research.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience of recovery from substance use and navigating complex systems.

  • Certified Recovery Support Peer Specialist, Peer Specialist Supervisor or similar peer credential in Texas: Proven success in helping peers navigate career pathways or workforce development systems.

  • Strong understanding of the Texas peer certification processes.

  • Reliable access to high-speed internet

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and collaborative.

  • Proficient using web-based technology (e.g., Google Suite, Salesforce, Zoom, etc.).

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and using virtual platforms.

  • Ability to periodically travel. Valid drivers license.

  • Ability to thrive in a remote / home office working environment

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years work experience as a peer support specialist.

  • Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor who is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or other Qualified Mental Health Counselor

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

  • Experiencing overcoming barriers to peer specialist credentials

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented approaches.

  • Experiencing providing job readiness support, resume building, and interview coaching.
