About This Training
Peer specialists bring lived experience, empathy, and deep emotional presence to their work. Without clear boundaries, supportive supervision, and shared responsibility for workplace wellness, that work can become difficult to sustain.
This training examines workplace wellness and return to use through the lens of peer supervision. Participants will explore the personal, supervisory, and organizational conditions that support sustainable peer work and consider how emotional labor, role drift, recovery maintenance, boundaries, and workplace culture affect staff wellness.
The training also introduces a structured, dignity-centered approach to responding to return to use. Participants will practice addressing safety, policy, accountability, support, and follow-up without abandoning recovery-oriented values.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define workplace wellness within a peer support setting.
- Identify personal, supervisory, and organizational strategies that support peer specialist wellness.
- Describe the characteristics of a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented work culture.
- Apply supportive supervision practices that promote wellness, role clarity, boundaries, and sustainable peer work.
- Develop a plan for addressing return to use through a conversation grounded in dignity, safety, policy, and continued support.
