Course Description:
Ethical practice is the foundation of effective peer support, especially when real‑world situations become complex. This interactive training brings peer specialists together to explore practical ethical dilemmas using a structured decision‑making model. Through case studies, breakout discussions, and guided reflection, participants will examine how values, boundaries, and power dynamics show up in everyday peer support work. This session creates a supportive space to strengthen ethical confidence, deepen self‑awareness, and apply the Texas Peer Specialist Code of Ethics to real scenarios peers encounter in the field.
Bios:
Lisa Carter RSPS, MHPS
Lisa Carter is a person in recovery from substance use and mental health challenges. She brings over twenty years of experience as an administrative assistant in the criminal justice field. Lisa is a certified house manager, a Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS), and is currently pursuing her Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) certification. Her lived experience and professional training fuel her commitment to empowering others and supporting recovery within her community.
Jermaine Hines, MHPS, RSPS
Marketing and Community Coordinator
Jermaine Hines is a certified MHPS and RSPS with statewide experience in peer-workforce development, training, and community coordination. As Marketing and Community Coordinator for RecoveryPeople’s Peer-to-Career program, Jermaine supports peer-specialist recruitment, employer engagement, and workforce-development strategies across Texas.

Christine Zimmerly leads the Peer-to-Career Program at RecoveryPeople, supporting the growth and professional development of Texas’ peer workforce. Drawing from her lived experience in recovery and justice involvement, she mentors emerging peer specialists and supervisors as they pursue training, certification, and meaningful careers. She works alongside a statewide team to create supportive workforce pathways that honor lived experience while strengthening retention, professional growth, and sustainability across Texas.
