Course Objectives
Using motivational tools empowers peers by fostering their own self-determination and personal motivation to change. It helps peer specialists build rapport and trust through collaborative, non-judgmental conversations. Through this self-discovery, peers learn of their own strengths and resources, which strengthens their confidence in the ability to make changes in their lives.
Learning Objectives:
Comprehend the value of motivational tools in peer support.
Identity the Core Communication Skills
Use open questions that increase self-efficacy.
Determine readiness cues and change talk vs. sustain talk.
Practice identifying change and sustain talk
Describe and recognize strengths
