Description

This CE session supports Recovery Support Peer Specialists (RSPs) in strengthening their ability to hold power together rather than over or for others. Building on foundational peer certification knowledge, the training focuses on real-world application of shared power, supported decision-making, and dignity of risk in everyday peer interactions. Participants will examine how good intentions can unintentionally shift into fixing or controlling, and will practice language, reflection, and decision-support strategies that preserve autonomy, dignity, and mutuality while maintaining ethical responsibility and safety.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify how power shows up in peer support services
  • Recognize when fixing replaces shared power
  • Apply dignity of risk in real-world peer specialist support scenarios
  • Use language that supports autonomy and self-determination
