2022 Research Impact

Research

Research is a primary way that RecoveryPeople makes an impact and promotes recovery from substance use and related mental health challenges. Learn about our research impact below and about our other activities in our 2022 Impact Report.

To advance the field, RecoveryPeople provided consulting to and conducted numerous research projects in 2022:

National Study on Treatment and Addiction Recovery Residences (NSTARR)

Provided ongoing consulting to a National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) funded study of recovery housing led by Dr. Amy Miracle of the Alcohol Research Group and Public Health Institute. Among other things, NSTARR completed a comprehensive census of recovery housing in the United States. A supplemental grant determined the impact of COVID on recovery housing capacity, policies, and programming.

Project HOMES

Provided ongoing consulting to one of the nation’s largest research projects aimed at measuring the outcomes of medication-assisted recovery (MAR) housing for opioid-use disorder. Project HOMES is funded by the Health and Human Services Commission’s Texas Targeted Opioid Response Program (TTOR) and is led by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

Recovery housing leader and workforce needs

A HRSA-funded study that identified leadership and workforce development needs of the recovery housing industry by surveying, interviewing, and hosting focus groups for house managers, operators, and researchers from 12 different states. The study was led by C4 Innovates.

Peer-to-career study

Collected data for a study of peer specialist students that identified characteristics (e.g., personal history and psychosocial factors) that were negatively or positively associated with their likelihood of achieving certification and employment. The study was led by Sierra Castedo de Martell of UT Health Houston.
