2022 Peer of the Year Award

PRESS RELEASE

Slade Skaggs receives RecoveryPeople’s 2022 Peer of the Year Award.

In recognition of his direct support to persons in recovery, RecoveryPeople is excited to announce Slade Skaggs as our 2022 Peer Specialist of the Year recipient. This award is part of a RecoveryPeople campaign during National Recovery Month (September) that recognizes leaders in the recovery community.

Slade Skaggs has been in long-term recovery since 2016, but his journey started decades prior. Slade cycled in and out of different recovery homes, treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, and jails. Today, Slade views this lived experience as his greatest asset when helping others find hope and choose a pathway of recovery that is right for them.

Slade’s life’s mission is to be heart-forward and spirit-led. Inspired by those who held space for him to heal and grow in early recovery, Slade has devoted his life to holding space for others and the recovery community.

Slade works as a Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) for a recovery community organization (RCO), Communities for Recovery, and he is the founder of Recovery Centered Living, which provides recovery housing in Austin, TX. Slade champions multiple pathways and is a passionate advocate focused on ending stigma and creating a continuum of support that includes both harm reduction and recovery services. You can see this commitment in his recovery homes, which supports residents prescribed medications including medication assisted treatment (MAT).

RecoveryPeople extends special recognition and thanks to The Conservatory in Dallas for sponsoring the award.
